Musings of a Salt Whisperer
Salt: the more you eat, the more you drink. The more you drink, the heavier you get. The heavier you get, the more the strain on the vascular system. Unless, unless of course, you have kidneys to balance it all out. Those on dialysis just don't have that ability. What they drink stays with them. That's how I get down to basics with my patients and residents. It's not about water, it's about salt.
Kate,Your understanding is how I also describe and visualize salt intake anddialysis (and for that matter CKD patients), however the refernces seem to point to a subtler form of disease with increased blood pressure and morbidity independent of sodium induced changes in volume status. Again as I said I need to learn more about this before commenting intelligently (this, of coarse, will not stop me from commenting unintelligently now ;-)
