  1. Do you think the fact that American doctors are paid three times as much as in other developed countries might play a role?

  2. I am a Seattle family practice MD who assisted her husband with Home Hemodialysis and Home Peritoneal Dialysis for three years - right up to his death on April 13, 2011.

I have written two books: "Complications: A Doctor's Love Story," and "Arranging Your Life When Dialysis Comes Home: 'The Underwear Factor.'" I would be happy to send you copies, Dr. Topf, if you provide a mailing address. Both books can be ordered through www.LindaGromkoMD.com.

There is very little written about renal failure from a personal perspective! As physicians, we might be far more zealous about preventing the most common causes of ESRD, i.e. AODM, HTN, etc. if we understood what it is really like to live without functioning kidneys.

My "kidney blog" address is www.LindaGromkoMDKidneyCare.blogspot.com.

Thank you. Linda Gromko MD; email: ljgromko@msn.com.
